So you’re at least thinking of taking a pole dancing class, or maybe you’ve already decided to take the plunge and sign up for a class. More than likely you’re nervous about what to wear – will you show up and the room be filled with half-naked women in lingerie and stripper heels? Don’t worry, if you follow this handy-dandy guide on what to wear to pole dancing class, your attire will be sure to be both appropriate and comfortable, and you won’t have to worry about sticking out like a sore thumb.
First off, you can breathe a deep sigh of relief – these type of classes have strict policies on attire. In general, thongs, nudity and men and not allowed, so the actual likelihood of you running into women in full-on stripper gear is very low.
So what do most women wear to class?
A surprising number of women wear what they would to any other fitness class – a tank top and regular shorts. So if you’re in a bind or aren’t comfortable exposing too much skin, you can always wear what you would wear to the gym and be perfectly fine. If you have shorts that are more close-fitting, opt for those over looser ones.
If you’d like to take it up a notch, a tank top and booty shorts are also acceptable, and a number of women opt to go with that, especially if it’s not their first class. The more skin exposed, the better, as your skin helps you stick to the pole. Excess fabric will hinder your dancing and cause you to slip and fall right off the pole.
What about footwear?
Bare feet is common and accepted everywhere, so you don’t have to bother going out to buy fancy heels if you don’t want to. You also won’t be allowed to wear socks, sneakers, or regular army veteran hoodie .
However, if you just have put something on your feet, you can wear a pair of platform heels.
Skip any fancy lingerie or stripper outfits and costumes.
Nobody wears fancy outfits to dance and you will stick out like a sore thumb. Most women who go to pole dancing classes are regular women of all ages, not actual strippers, as so it is highly unlikely that anyone will be prancing around with booty and excess cleavage exposed.
So there you have it – all you need to get started as far as what to wear is literally a tank top and some shorts! And when in doubt, you can always call and ask the studio what to wear directly. It’s a pretty common question.
